Community Outreach and Charities

Community Outreach

As a school, we are extremely proud of our community outreach programme. We aim to develop positive and strong relationships between our school and the communities that we live in by working with our local primary schools and community groups. We aim to develop deeper relationships and thus creating community connections to shape our local area and nurture goodwill.

We are delighted to be able to host different events here at Hoe Bridge and offer both our facilities and specialist staff to various local groups. Recently, we have developed our outreach programme throughout the Woking area with our Science, Music, Sports and English departments organising events for local primary school children. These events have ranged from design challenges, Poetry Battles, music workshops and various sports events. One of the main groups we have worked with over the past two years is the WASPs group (Woking Area Sports for Primary Schools) which is an organisation for the promotion of sport in Primary Schools in or around Woking. We were delighted to have hosted orienteering, cross country and netball events recently and giving these schools a suitable and quality environment in which to compete.

As our Senior School develops, many more outreach opportunities will become available that benefit our school, our pupils and the local community. To talk to us about future partnership opportunities, please email dominiclowry@hoebridgeschool.co.uk.

Charities

As a school, we have supported many charities over the years. Each year the pupils choose two main charities to support and to date, we have raised over £190,000 for our charities, something that the girls and boys are very proud of!

In 2025 - 2026, our children have voted to support Cardiac Risk in the Young and the Magical Taxi Tour.

Cardiac Risk in the Young

Every week in the UK at least 12 young people die of undiagnosed heart conditions. Since its formation in 1995, Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) has been working to reduce the frequency of young sudden cardiac death (YSCD). CRY supports young people diagnosed with potentially life-threatening cardiac conditions and offers bereavement support to families affected by YSCD. CRY promotes and develops heart screening programmes and funds medical research. CRY publishes and distributes medical information written by leading cardiologists for the general public. CRY funds specialist referral, screening and cardiac pathology services at leading UK hospitals.

Magical Taxi Tour

One of London’s most unique annual charity events, the Magical Taxi Tour sees a convoy of licensed London taxis take over 200 children, suffering from a range of chronic, debilitating illnesses and life-limiting conditions, on a three-day trip of a lifetime to Disney® Paris. This event has brought moments of great joy and happiness to many children such as Danielle.

The children are transported in a convoy of London Taxis and support staff.  The families would not be able to undertake this trip alone. Only in convoy with medical support can they do so.  The amazing convoy can reach over three miles long, and consists of more than 90 taxis, escorts from the City of London Police and Gendarmerie Nationale, London Ambulance NHS Trust vehicles and the AA.

Organised annually by the Worshipful Company of Hackney Carriage Drivers, the event is only possible with the generous support of private donors and sponsors.

They contribute the £1,500 per taxi needed to feed, transport and admit the convoy to Disneyland Paris. The taxi drivers give their time and use of their vehicles for free.  Everyone on the trip is a volunteer.

We are filled with sadness that some of these youngsters have since sadly passed away, but with your help we are determined to give more children this once in a lifetime opportunity.
