Master at Arms

Published on 22 May 2017

Xavi Wallin in Year 6 has become a National Champion. He competed in the IAPS Fencing Tournament at Millfield School recently in which he attempted to do something quite special. He fought in all three weapon categories, foil, epee and sabre and attempted to be crowned Master at Arms.

He competed in both the epee and sabre competitions during the first session of the weekend finishing second in the epee and third in the sabre and after an overnight stay Sunday saw him competing in the foil. He fought his way through the rounds and eventually made it to the final where he faced a tough competitor from Sussex House. With immense skill and determination the fight ended with Xavi winning 10 - 6.  This then gave him the points required to be crowned Master at Arms.

This is a truly amazing achievement which he thoroughly deserves. Xavi is a great competitor and he has worked so hard with his fencing this year after finishing third in 2016 - we are all very proud of him!”
