Art
You will see straight away from the displays around the school what an important part Art plays in our curriculum. Our Early Years children are often up to their elbows in paint, playdoh, clay, water, glitter and glue and there are endless uses for yoghurt pots and the insides of kitchen rolls!
As the children progress up through the school the use of different media becomes more structured and children can choose how they would like their work of art to look. An understanding of perspective, the effects of shading and colour mixing is developed through experimentation. They study the work of famous artists and attempt to use their styles to create their own master pieces. Our walls are adorned with Van Goghs, Brugels, Kandinskys and Warhols to name but a few.
Graphic design begins with the youngest children as they plan and execute their pictures on the computer and by Year 2 they are designing Wanted posters for Guy Fawkes, invites to assemblies and functions and our own school newspaper for charity fund raising.
Textiles are used in collage, puppet making and sewing and model making involves the use of boxes, card, wood, and clay. Groups of children may produce large pieces of artwork outdoors to be washed or blown away by the rain or wind.
Art offers a wealth of creative opportunities enhancing the work of the children in other subject areas and is an invaluable way that they can express themselves and share their thoughts, feelings and ideas with others.
