“Urghh, What is it?”

“What makes a rainbow?”

“Where has it gone, it’s magic!”

Our young children today live in an age of rapid advancements in science and technology. This core area of learning is fundamental to exploring, understanding and influencing the natural and made worlds in which we live. Our teaching in the Pre-Prep embraces the natural curiosity and wonder that children have and actively encourages them to question the world around them; we believe a child can never ask too many ‘whys’! Our diverse curriculum offers a wealth of practical experiences and hands-on learning opportunities so children can make sense of the world around them. In the Early Years our children learn about the safe use of tools, enjoy creature encounters, explore the natural environment and role-play real-life situations, for example at the doctors or garden centre. In Years 1 and 2 they develop their predicting, observing and thinking skills, explore living things and their habitats and are introduced to Materials, Energy, Movement and Forces. We are extremely fortunate in the wonderful outdoor environment we have at Hoe Bridge. You’ll often see us out in the grounds with our binoculars, magnifying glasses and bug boxes, or collecting the results from our weather station. Oh, that reminds me, we’re just off to check on our ‘rotten-rubbish’ experiment…… more ‘urghh’s to come!
