The Headmaster

The school is a vibrant and happy place where our intentions are to prepare confident and independent pupils when they leave, girls at Year 6 and boys at Year 8.

The process of developing the children is carefully and progressively managed and it is our quest to support individuals through this journey. It is during this journey that pupils realise their academic, social, creative and sporting potential - expectation is both high and driven, which ensures that each child achieves their best.

It has struck me as Headmaster, how happy the pupils are, how determined they are to succeed and how much they care about each other.

In lessons, pupils are pushed hard and inspired by dedicated staff. Lessons are rigorous and interactive and achievement is excellent.

To balance the academic side, games takes place four times a week with most matches on Wednesday afternoons. For those not playing matches, this afternoon is given over to hobbies - a variety of activities ranging from board games, war hammer and drama to BMX biking, horse riding and golf.

The music department is thriving with nearly two thirds of the pupils in the school playing instruments and there are nine choirs, bands and ensembles performing in both informal and formal concerts. An annual musical production is always the highlight for the drama department, though small productions may happen throughout the year. Art and Design Technology enhance the creative nature of the school and pupils regularly win sports, music, art, DT and all rounder awards.

Parental contact and communication is vital and all pupils have a form teacher who oversees their academic, extra curricular and pastoral needs. Parents are encouraged to talk to form teachers at any stage and as Headmaster, I am also available at drop off or collection times for an informal chat. Parent’s evening, information evening, the weekly bulletin and reports complete the communication with parents. A social committee of current parents provide for the social side of our community and develop a strong link with the school and local charities.
