ICT
The aim of the department is to ensure that each child learns the ICT skills necessary in today’s world in a caring, interesting and exciting environment.
The school has excellent ICT facilities. The children are taught in a well-designed, air-conditioned suite equipped with twenty-two workstations, colour laser printer, scanner and digital camera. The department has ten digital video cameras for use by the children throughout the school and when out on field trips. There is also a second, air-conditioned suite of twenty workstations. In addition, there are computers and printers in the classrooms and library – in total a network approaching one hundred.
The school has a fast broadband Internet connection and uses the N²H² filtering system recommended by the DfES. All year groups are instructed in safe and sensible use of the internet to enable them to explore the many educational resources available on the World Wide Web.
From Years 2 to 6, the children follow a broad based course ranging from keyboard skills, word processing and LOGO to creating an Access database, Excel formulae and the use of animation software.
In Year 7 the pupils complete the ten elements of the CLAIT syllabus and in Year 8 they learn how to write HTML code to create their own web pages. All are encouraged to investigate different ways of achieving the required results. Work in ICT is related to the areas pupils are studying in other subjects enabling them to appreciate the relevance of computers as tools to be used across the curriculum.
