Through a balance of fun and focus, pupils are encouraged to steadily build their confidence, their knowledge and their understanding of the beautiful language of French.

Pupils learn about French life and culture and develop their linguistic skills while following a topic-based programme of study. Using visual stimuli, songs, surveys and games to complement more formal elements of their learning, pupils in lower years gradually build their vocabulary and basic grammar in an enjoyable and upbeat atmosphere. Higher up in the school, pupils’ learning becomes more profound and their progress more intense as they prepare for CE or Scholarship exams in this core subject. Pupils also have the opportunity to take part in a thoroughly enjoyable residential trip to France in Year 7.

We aim to give your child the competence both to speak and to understand French when they visit French-speaking countries and the satisfaction of being able to communicate and to express themselves in another language.
