Mathematics

In the Maths department our philosophy is to provide a stimulating environment for children so they appreciate and enjoy the challenge of the subject.

In early years we aim to instil a sense of number, foster mental agility and then encourage the application of these skills.

As their confidence develops children investigate and explore the nuances of all aspects of the subject. Children learn to work with numbers, think logically and develop their spatial awareness. The department uses interactive whiteboards, computers and calculators.

From Year 5 children are entered for the Primary and Junior Mathematics Challenges while further up the school scholars enjoy the rigours of the Problem Solving Journal.  Logic puzzles and games of strategy are made available in a hobby session because, above all else, we believe that Mathematics is fun and should be enjoyed by pupils of all abilities.
