Prep

In their first year in the Prep department children are introduced to specialist teaching.

Each child has a class teacher and a class base.  Almost all subjects are taught in specialist rooms.  The staff/pupil ratio is very generous which means that classes are kept small and each child can receive appropriate help and attention.

Children study English, Mathematics, French, Latin, Science, History, Geography, Religious Education, Music, Art as well as Information Technology and Design Technology.  Maths and English classes are set by ability from Year 3. Greek is offered as an option in Year 8.

From Year 7 children are streamed and they follow the Common Entrance or scholarship courses prior to moving onto senior schools.

Examinations take place twice a year for the Lower School (aged 8-10) and three times a year for Seniors (Common Entrance and Scholarship trials).  All parents receive a written report at the end of each term.

From Year 4 every child’s progress is assessed by effort grades and percentages.  These are based on all work done in class and the results are closely monitored by staff and sent home at half term.

The school values its close contact with parents in every aspect of their child’s education.  Open Evenings for parents and staff are held in the Autumn and Summer terms.

Staff are happy to discuss a child’s progress on an informal basis and the Headmaster gives regular guidance and advice to parents about senior schooling for their children.
